FireFrost Ride - part of the Burning Snowflake Series

The next ride in the FireFrost ride is a road ride appropriate for road bikes! We're kicking off spring riding on the road. For this one, we won't have a mixed terrain option because the trails are soft. There will be breakfast pre-ride, and lunch afterward. Use this as a tasty excuse to get out your road bike and enjoy a long ride with your friends and meet new people, too!

Details are on the Ride Page. RSVP now!

Full Moon Ride #5

2016-12-13 21.17.12.jpg

We're riding under the Full Moon during each full moon! This is the fifth of the Ride HQ Full Moon Series! The ride starts at 7:15pm so be sure to bring lights and your sense of adventure.

IMPORTANT RIDE UPDATE:

The trails are too soft to ride with all of the snow melt and warm temperatures. Therefore, the best bike setup is:

  • Mixed terrain bike with 30c + tires
  • Studded tires - there might be ice on the roads
  • Fenders (to keep the person behind you dry)
  • Front and rear lights that will last 2.5+ hours

We have a ride leader so you will be led through the night at a moderate - comfortable pace. This is not fast (we need to stay safe in the night and with ice), nor is it slow (we don't want to get cold out there). We won't publish a route, but will share it with attendees in person prior to the ride should you want it.

The route's length is weather-dependent and trail-condition-dependent. We adjust the route so you can expect the ride to last around 2 hours total.

Ride down to the KMC Cross-Fest and Watch Exciting CX Racing at its Best

UPDATE: Approriate-to-cyclocross rainy weather is predicted for Saturday. Therefore, we are CANCELING the road ride since a long day riding and then hours standing in the rain isn't the best mix. We will do this road ride event next year, so mark your calendars early! We *highly* recommend visiting the KMC Cross Fest this weekend, as it's going to be great racing and a lot of fun to participate as a spectator.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Cyclocross race scene is fun for everyone, no matter if you're a racer or spectator.

We are riding our road bikes down to the KMC Cross Fest taking place at the Thompson Speedway on Saturday, October 1.

The ride departs from here at 8:30am. The route is 65 miles in length and does include a few dirt roads. 25c or wider road tires are appropriate for the ride.

PLEASE NOTE: If the forecast still looks like rain for 60% or more for the full day Saturday, we will cancel the ride this Thursday. Check back here to see if it's running or if we need to cancel. Being wet when riding and then staying wet at the race won't be good for anyone!

Schedule:

  • Depart Ride Headquarters at 9:30am. Here's the route: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/16823482
  • Arrive by 1:30 at the Thompson Speedway. Change, get food, etc. There are showers on-site.
  • 2pm: Cat 2/3 Men Race
  • 3pm: Elite Masters Men Race
  • 4pm: Elite Women Race
  • 5:15: Elite Men Race
  • 6:30: Shuttle departs for Ride Headquarters (see below for details)

We are offering a shuttle to return back here at 6:30pm, at the conclusion of the Elite Cyclocross Men's race. The shuttle fee is $45. Otherwise, the ride is free. If you'd like to take advantage of the shuttle, we need to hear from you by September 27 via email at connect@rideheadquarters.com. The shuttle will bring down your change of clothes and anything else you want to send down in it.

The KMC Cross Fest is incorporating the Gran Fondo New England and Major Taylor Century on Sunday, October 2. Camping at the Thompson Speedway is an option. If you'd like to send down your camping things, we'll bring them down. You'll just need to find a way home on Sunday.

Get the Inside Intelligence on Eating Right, Training, Riding Comfortably by Molly Hurford & Peter Glassford

Molly Hurford and Peter Glassford are coming to speak Thursday evening, October 13.

Molly is a writer for Bicycling Magazine, and has written three books for cyclists. She knows a lot and likes to share what she's learned through experience and through connecting with experts on many topics.

Peter Glassford is an elite racer and owner of Smart Athlete Coaching. He has a lot of expert advice where it comes to training properly and making the most of time in the saddle for those with busy schedules.

The two will discuss:

Racing, training, nutrition, and how to be comfortable in the saddle. These two have a stock pile of tips to help any rider, from beginner to experienced, make the most out of their riding season: from chamois choice to best recovery and training foods. How do you handle the off-season in order to be ready in the spring?

Also, a very special twist on the evening: we're splitting the men and women into two groups. Peter will address questions and issues for the men, Molly will do the same for women. As everyone knows, but is not all that interested in saying outloud, men and women have very specific concerns and questions that are uncomfortable to talk about, especially with the opposite sex in attendance. Take advantage of this opportunity to pick the brains of both of these terrific individuals and you'll be a better, faster, and more comfortable rider as a result!

Don't miss this very special evening with Molly and Peter! We are serving refreshments. Please RSVP below. Let us know if there are any questions for these two you'd like to ask in advance!
